Jonathan Rode's Journey to Becoming Battalion Chief

Chief Rode

Every one of our responders has had a unique journey getting to where they are today. For Battalion Chief (BC) Jonathan Rode, a husband, son and proud father of five, his path to becoming a firefighter, and now leader for Bothell Fire Department, began
with family.

“My father-in-law was a Captain for Tukwila Fire Department. I enjoyed the camaraderie he shared with other firefighters and the physical aspects of the job…before long I became
really interested.”

Jon’s own father was a volunteer firefighter for 30 years, and BC Rode knew that a career in Fire and EMS would be a fulfilling one. He began to test for the fire service and in 2005, was hired by the Bothell Fire Department.

“I am coming up on my sixteenth anniversary, and I love my job just as much now as when I first started. I work with some outstanding people, we have a great time, laughing and sharing life together. The other favorite part of my job is getting out into the community and being able to help. We usually see people on their worst day, offering some kind of assurance, even a kind word, is what I enjoy most.”

During BC Rode’s time with Bothell Fire Department, he has served on the Technical Rescue Team, and was an EMTG Academy Instructor in 2017. BC Rode’s passion for the community, his love for teamwork and his leadership skills have quickly moved him through the ranks and on January 6, 2021, Jon was officially promoted to Battalion Chief, a career
worthy accomplishment.

"Bothell has always been a part of my life. One of the things I look forward to is reminding people why we are here. Our community shows us a lot of appreciation and support and it’s a privilege having people trust us to come into their homes, and to be able to make a difference.”

BC Rode is also excited to help fellow responders reach their fullest potential and develop professionally.

"I want to help people achieve their goals, and to support them in whatever ways they need.”

Jon is already making out to be an exemplary Battalion Chief and we are fortunate to have him on our team, serving in a leadership role. Please join us in congratulating BC Rode, if you happen to see him out and about in Bothell, be sure to say hello!
