Community Emergency Response Team

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a 7-session course that trains community members how to care for themselves and their neighborhoods for the first days following a disaster when emergency resources are overwhelmed.

Course Content


CERT prepares citizens to be self-sustaining for the first few days following a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available. In the CERT course, citizens learn:
  • Disaster medical skills
  • Disaster psychology
  • Fire safety and suppression
  • Search and rescue techniques
  • Team organization
  • Triage skills
