Home Fire Escape Planning

Fires can spread rapidly through your home, leaving you as little as 2 minutes to escape safely once the alarm sounds. Make sure you have put together a home fire escape plan for your family - and practice it often.
  1. Draw a floor plan of your house and identify exits and possible escape routes with your family. Get started using an Escape Planning Grid (PDF).
  2. Identify 2 ways out of every room.
  3. Make sure smoke alarms are installed and working in your home.
  4. Pick a meeting location outside and in front of your home.
  5. Talk about your plan with every family member.
  6. Practice your home fire escape drill at least once every year.
