This month Bothell firefighters Chad Gustafson and Tom McKittrick visited a very special little girl, on her 4th birthday. Quinleigh will always have an extraordinary relationship with these two firefighters because four years ago, when she was just 15 hours old, her heart stopped. Minutes later, firefighters arrived to find Quinleigh unresponsive while her father and the delivery midwife did CPR. Firefighters worked on her for two long hours until her tiny body was finally stable enough to take to Evergreen Health Medical Center. She later moved to Seattle Children's Hospital where she stayed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for two more weeks.
Quinleigh's parents, Greg and Jamie, were warned their daughter may be deaf, blind, or developmentally delayed after all of the trauma she had been through. But Quinleigh is one tough little girl and she has beat all the odds. Today Quinleigh is a healthy, smart and joyful 4-year-old-girl who loves playing house, reading books and playing basketball with her family.
Greg and Jamie continue to express their immense gratitude to all the first responders, doctors and nurses who came to her rescue that day in January 2014. Bothell Fire Department wants to thank Greg and Jamie for keeping us connected and a part of their journey. We look forward to many more birthday celebrations in the years to come!
