[ARCHIVED] Officer Muro Recognized with Lifesaving Award

Muro Life Saving Award 2019 copy

On November 12, 2019, Bothell Police Department presented Officer Louise Muro with the Bothell Police Department Lifesaving Award. During a City Council meeting, Chief Seuberlich, Bothell Police Chief, recognized Officer Muro for her recent actions while on patrol in our community.

On July 31, 2019, Officer Muro was conducting patrol in the area of the Holly Hills Clubhouse and came upon a vehicle that was parked horizontally across three parking stalls.  As Officer Muro moved closer to the vehicle she could see a lone occupant behind the wheel. This subject was drenched in sweat and appeared to be foaming at the mouth. She also noticed a medical alert bracelet and what appeared to be a blood sugar monitor inside the vehicle. Officer Muro recognized the male in his late fifties was experiencing a medical emergency and immediately called for a medical aid response.

Officer Muro stayed with the driver and attempted to communicate with him, however, at this point he was unconscious and non-responsive. Officer Muro assisted medics in removing the subject and placing him on a backboard to receive medical treatment. Medics advised that the man’s blood sugar level was 35, and that levels below 50 are often fatal.

If it wasn’t for the proactive police work and decisive actions of Officer Muro this subject would have likely suffered a fatal medical emergency.  Medics along with the assistance of Officer Muro, were able to return the subjects blood sugar to normal levels and he regained consciousness.

Officer Muro should be commended for her proactive policing, recognition of the medical emergency and her quick and appropriate response.  Officer Muro’s actions led to this person receiving expedited medical attention and treatment.  For her efforts and actions, Officer Louise Muro is awarded the Bothell Police Department Lifesaving Award.
