The City of Bothell is currently accepting applications for four new youth voting members to join the Parks and Recreation Board (two members) and Arts Commission (two members). Youth living in the City of Bothell between the ages of 14-17 are eligible for these volunteer positions and if selected, would serve up to a three-year term.
In meetings over the last few months, City Councilmembers discussed their desire for more youth participation in local government. In an effort to increase engagement with community youth and learn more about their priorities and needs, City Council amended Bothell Municipal Code Chapters 2.44 and 2.55 on January 20th, 2020 to allow youth members on these boards and commissions.
The current Parks & Recreation Board has seven members and advises council on expansion and operation of city Parks & Recreation facilities and programs, including comprehensive planning and the Capital Improvement Program. They currently meet on the second Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
The Bothell Arts Commission advises council on the allocation of "Percent for Public Art" funding, and helps promotes arts and culture in the community. The commission currently consists of seven members and meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6 p.m., at City Hall.
The addition of youth members will bring each to nine members total.
Interested and qualified candidates should apply here before February 5th, 2020.
