[ARCHIVED] Kyle Stannert to become Bothell’s next City Manager

Stannert, Kyle

The City of Bothell is pleased to announce the selection of Kyle Stannert as its next city manager, following a nation-wide search.

The City Council is expected to formally approve an employment agreement at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 19. Stannert’s first day in office is expected to be June 21.

“We are so excited to introduce Kyle to our community as our next City Manager,” said Mayor Mason Thompson. “He is highly thought of throughout and brings a wealth of experience working in the region. On top of his qualifications, our staff and council enjoyed getting to know him as a person through the interview process and are confident our community will feel the same way."

Stannert has 16 years of municipal leadership experience. He currently serves as the Deputy City Manager for the City of Fort Collins, Colorado where he is responsible for a portfolio of community facing services focused on complex challenges including affordable housing, environmental sustainability, and nearly 1,000 acres of developed parks.  At Fort Collins, Kyle was also the co-lead in creating the City's first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office, and helped align city operations with priorities of the City Council and the community during the budget process.

Prior to that, Stannert was an Assistant City Manager in Bellevue, Washington for six years and served in other senior roles for the City before that focusing on open government, innovation and continuous improvement.  As an Assistant City Manager in Bellevue, Kyle led city-wide organizational development efforts, navigated several high-profile projects, and oversaw the City Council's work plan.

The search and selection process for a new Bothell City Manager included an extensive survey of Bothell residents and stakeholders to gather input on community priorities.  The process also included a community forum, which gave the public a chance to join virtually and hear candidates answer questions about the priorities identified in the survey. On April 19, in a unanimous vote, the City Council selected Stannert.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join a great team in Bothell and come back to the region my family calls home.  It will be an honor to serve the community as City Manager, and I am looking forward to connecting with the City Council as we begin our work together,” said Kyle.

Stannert, a former resident of South Snohomish County, graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History.  He earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
