Bothell City Council Adopts 2023-2024 Budget

City Hall

On Tuesday, December 6, Bothell City Council unanimously adopted the City’s final 2023-2024 biennial budget. The budget represents the City’s proposed revenue and spending plan for the next two years totaling $375.7 million.

A preliminary copy of the budget can be found at bothellwa.gov/budget. The final 2023-2024 Budget workbook will be posted to the City’s website in early 2023.

This process has been really collaborative and encouraging. We are funding asset replacement, our reserves are in good shape, and we are doing the things that we haven’t been in a position to do in the past,” said Mayor Mason Thompson. “I am excited that we are funding public safety not just in police and fire but also funding the Regional Crisis Response Agency, and providing human services funding at levels we haven’t seen before in Bothell.

Budget highlights include attention to the City’s asset replacement fund, a backlog of vehicle and equipment purchases, and a new fire ladder truck.

American Rescue Act grant monies have also been built into the budget to fund several one-time studies as well as behavioral services available to the community. Investments were also made in public safety, with the expansion of our crisis response program and increased number of mental health co-responders.

Additional funds were also allocated to events and programs that bring Bothell together including the popular “Summer Nights” in Bothell event series.

The budget development process began in early 2022 with a statistically valid community survey and a City Council retreat. In July, budget values and priorities were further refined based on feedback from the community survey and City Council direction, and in October, a preliminary budget was presented to City Council.

Public hearings were held in November for additional community input and after council review and deliberation, the budget was adopted
