This January 18th, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service will look different than in years past. Because of COVID-19, we will not be holding a large-scale volunteer event. Instead, we’re working with volunteer coordinators throughout the region to share other ways you can safely celebrate this meaningful day in an impactful way.

2020 Was Ruff: Pet Preparedness Webinar

Did you get a new pet during quarantine last year? If so, this event is for you! Join us January 28th from 7-8 p.m. to meet fellow pet owners, show off your new four-legged friend, and to learn about pet emergency preparedness. When it comes to our animals, the best way to keep them safe during a disaster is to have a plan, stay informed, and build a kit.

Tips to Prevent Mail Theft

Mail thieves are getting more determined, but there are still many steps you can take to minimize the chances of your mail and mailbox being targeted. It’s also easier than ever before to unsubscribe to pre-approved credit card offers that come in the mail, and put you at risk of identity theft. Bothell Police gives some great tips here:

Keep Storm Drains Clear

During snowy weather, storm drains need your help to function as they’re supposed to. When they get covered with heavy snow, ice, leaves, and other debris, there’s no place for rain and melting snow to go. If it’s safe to do so, use a shovel to clear snow and ice off the storm drain grates on your street.

Snow Plow Routes

We’re ready for winter. Are you? With forecasts predicting a wetter and colder season, make sure to winterize your vehicle and pack an emergency supply kit in your car. Check out winter weather tips and the City’s snow plow routes before it snows!

Washington State Plastic Bag Ban

At the end of last month, Governor Inslee proclaimed a 30-day delay to the statewide single-use plastic bag ban. Washington’s plastic bag ban is set to take effect on January 30.

Recycle Voucher Program

The 2021 Recycling Collection Event is happening now and runs through November! Request a voucher on our website to recycle large appliances, clean wood, yard waste, scrap metal, and more. Vouchers are eligible at the Shoreline Recycling & Transfer Station.
